Everyone keeps asking me for the Save the Dates. I’m like: here is your save the date…the wedding is 10/2/10. *blank stares*
So…why are you doing them? Just cause? Or are people traveling far and wide?
90% of our wedding guests are within 45 mins of the place we’re having it. The other 10% of guests are relatively close to us and got a verbal notification.
I feel like these aren’t necessary unless people are traveling and they’re going to people who might not get the info from you or through the grapevine?
No way! You don’t HAVE to do them. It sounds like you’ve already got it covered. We decided to do them because 90% of the people attending the wedding live within a 2-5 hour drive or they’re flying from other states. Also, in our group of friends, we’re one of four couples getting married this fall. Nobody can keep anybody’s wedding date straight. I figured: why not send out some save-the-date magnets to ward off potential confusion?
Everyone’s situation is unique, so there is no right way to do any one thing. Skip ’em if you can.
Yeah I’ve been getting a few “well why didn’t you send dave the dates?” questions lately too. We didn’t send them because we didn’t have a super long engagement and by the time we had a pretty set guest list and everyone’s addresses, it seemed kinda silly to send out save the dates. Although now I’m trying to figure out when to send invitations to find the compromise between lots of notice and the supposed etiquette rule that says sending invites before 6-8 weeks is rude (really? RUDE??). Sigh…hopefully almost everyone already knows the date and is saving it. They’ll get invites around 10-12 weeks before the wedding and will just have to swallow this awful injustice.
Rude? How is sending them before 6-8 weeks rude?? LOL @ “awful injustice.”
Did you already rule out email save-the-dates since because many of your guests aren’t internet-friendly? If email could work, that would be a free and easy way to give lots of notice.
